Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, Feb 3 (NationPress) Adani Defence & Aerospace and Italy's Leonardo have officially unveiled a strategic alliance aimed at creating, manufacturing, and maintaining a comprehensive helicopter production ecosystem in India.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two industry leaders marks a significant milestone in establishing a fully integrated helicopter manufacturing framework in India, which responds to the increasing military needs while advancing the nation's self-sufficiency in helicopter production, as stated in a joint release by the two defence giants.
The collaboration is focused on fulfilling the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, specifically concerning Leonardo's advanced AW169M and AW109 TrekkerM helicopters. The partnership will facilitate gradual indigenization, provide strong maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, and offer extensive pilot training, as detailed in the announcement.
By combining Leonardo’s exceptional helicopter design and engineering skills with Adani Defence's comprehensive defence and aerospace capabilities, this initiative supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and fortifies national defence readiness, with potential applications in civil aviation and global supply chain integration, the statement noted.
This helicopter ecosystem is set to have a transformative economic effect, creating thousands of high-skilled jobs in areas such as engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and support services, thereby establishing India as a competitive hub for helicopter production.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, remarked: "This partnership with Leonardo represents a crucial step toward establishing a robust, future-ready helicopter ecosystem in India. By merging global excellence with our industrial momentum, we aim to generate lasting value, promote high-skilled job opportunities, and align with Aatmanirbhar Bharat, positioning India as a global aerospace leader."
“With the Indian Armed Forces expecting a demand for over 1,000 helicopters in the next decade, this alliance brings to life our vision for self-sufficient manufacturing. It will accelerate indigenization, enhance supply chains, and solidify India's status as a premier production center,” stated Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace.
Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters, expressed: "We are thrilled to collaborate with Adani to contribute to India's vision for a stronger and expanding rotorcraft sector, ensuring the nation has access to cutting-edge technology and operational capabilities it rightfully deserves. We look forward to advancing this initiative, leveraging our mutual expertise to provide optimal solutions."
