Adani Electricity Issues Warning to Kite Fliers in Mumbai Regarding Overhead Power Lines

Mumbai, January 13 (NationPress) - Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited has cautioned kite enthusiasts to steer clear of overhead power transmission lines as the Makar Sankranti festival approaches. The company highlighted the risk of kite strings, also known as manja, potentially touching or getting close to the arching zone of these lines, which could allow a very high voltage current to pass through to the person handling the kite.

“Although Adani Electricity utilizes an underground distribution network to ensure reliable electricity for its 31.5 lakh customers, there are still overhead transmission lines that supply power from outside the city. Thus, we strongly advise kite fliers to refrain from flying kites near these lines,” the company stated.

“This advisory aims to promote a safe and joyful celebration during the Makar Sankranti festivities,” the statement emphasized.

The notice explained that the kite string, commonly referred to as ‘Manja’, is an excellent conductor of electricity and can carry a very high voltage if it comes into contact with overhead live wires or enters the arching zone.

“Adani Electricity appeals to residents and consumers in these regions to report any incidents related to unsafe kite flying near power transmission lines immediately to AEML’s dedicated Power Help Line 19122 so that necessary actions can be taken. Alternatively, they can also connect with us through our Social Media Handles @Adani_Elec_Mum or visit our website or Adani Electricity App,” the statement further added.

Meanwhile, Adani Electricity is planning to provide 60 percent renewable electricity to Mumbai by 2027, setting a potential global benchmark for renewable energy use in major cities, as recently stated by Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.

He noted that currently, 38 percent of Mumbai’s power supply is sourced from green energy, and this figure is set to increase. This announcement coincided with the UN Climate Change Conference, COP28, held in the UAE.
