Key infrastructure components include the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station along with associated transmission infrastructure.
Support for Pumped Storage and Clean Energy
Beyond renewable evacuation, the project is designed to bolster the growing pumped storage ecosystem in the Satara, Pune, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Pumped storage projects are increasingly viewed as critical grid-balancing assets as India scales up intermittent solar and wind capacity.

Strategic Impact on AESL's Network
With this addition, AESL's cumulative transmission network will grow to 29,739 ckm and 1,43,425 MVA of transformation capacity, reinforcing its position as India's largest private transmission and distribution company. The project will also strengthen power flows between Southern and Western India, creating what the company describes as a vital transmission backbone.
Patel added: 'AESL remains committed to building future-ready transmission infrastructure that enables renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability and supports India's long-term decarbonisation goals.'
Alignment With India's 500 GW Target
The project fits squarely within India's broader energy ambition of installing 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. Notably, transmission infrastructure has emerged as a critical bottleneck in that push — renewable capacity is being added faster than the grid can evacuate it, making projects like this one structurally significant beyond their headline value. This win extends AESL's track record of securing large TBCB mandates in corridors connecting resource-rich green zones with urban and industrial demand centres.
