Kolkata, May 14 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, harshly criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday over her critical remarks regarding the Border Security Force (BSF). She suggested that the BSF had not been proactive in ensuring the safe return of jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw from the custody of the Pakistan Rangers.
While addressing the media, Adhikari remarked, "On Tuesday, the Chief Minister claimed that the BSF was lacking in taking necessary actions to secure Shaw's safe return. She implied that if the BSF would not act, she would intervene. This hints at her view that the BSF is ineffective, which is an anti-national statement."
He further questioned who the Chief Minister intended to approach if not the BSF regarding this matter.
Adhikari added, "Mamata Banerjee ought to clarify to the nation if she would engage with Shehbaz Sharif on this issue."
He revealed that Shaw's safe return was assured by the Director General of the BSF just 48 hours prior.
"I had a conversation with the Director General of the BSF, and he confirmed that everything necessary is being done. Shaw will be back safely very soon. The credit for this goes to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BSF officials," Adhikari stated.
Previously, Adhikari had also released a statement regarding Shaw's safe return, describing it as a moment of national pride and relief.
