Police sources indicate that advocate Sheikh Manowar Alam was taken into custody in Hyderabad by officers from the Kakdwip Police Station.
The incident occurred on November 12, when the body of Sonia Haldar, a law college student, was discovered hanging in the advocate's chamber. Authorities recovered a love letter, prompting the deceased's family to file a complaint against the advocate, accusing him of contributing to her suicide.
Following a thorough investigation, the Kakdwip police apprehended the advocate, who is reported to have been the Vice President of the Trinamool Law Cell at the Kakdwip Court.
A senior officer from the Sundarban Police District stated, "The investigation commenced due to the complaint from the deceased's family. A manhunt was launched for the accused, who fled to Hyderabad after the discovery of the law student's body in his chamber. The investigation is ongoing."
The victim, a first-year law student, resided in the Gandhinagar area of Kakdwip. Family sources revealed that she visited the lawyer's office daily for practical training as part of her academic curriculum.
Her family stated that she left home on the morning of November 12, but by evening, they received the distressing news of her body being found in the lawyer's chamber. Upon being informed, police officers visited the scene and discovered the body.
A bag at the scene contained a love letter, which the family claims indicates the lawyer had a close relationship with the deceased, suggesting that she may have taken her life due to distress stemming from this relationship. Subsequently, they filed a formal complaint against the lawyer at the Kakdwip Police Station.
