Kolkata, Oct 23 (NationPress) The police stated on Thursday that the desecration of a Kali idol in the Kakdwip area of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal is an isolated event and not associated with any political motives. They reported that one individual has been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at a temple in the Suryanagar gram panchayat.
The arrested individual has been identified as Narayan Halder, who allegedly harmed the idol while under the influence of alcohol. According to police reports, Halder has confessed to his actions.
“Acting on intelligence, we detained Narayan Halder (28), son of Bhupati Halder. During the interrogation, he admitted his guilt and expressed regret over his behavior. It was confirmed that he was inebriated at the time of the incident that led to the idol's desecration,” the West Bengal Police conveyed through a social media update.
Authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and the case will be referred to the court.
“Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend additional individuals involved. Initially, this incident seems like a localized disruption, with certain miscreants attempting to disseminate false information,” the police reported.
They urged the public not to trust or share rumors about the event.
“We emphasize that the sanctity of Maa Kali is of utmost importance to us. We implore all citizens to refrain from spreading rumors and assure that we will take all necessary actions to maintain peace and safeguard religious sentiments,” the statement continued.
According to police, two cases have been filed: one for road blockages and another for vandalism.
“No arrests have been made yet in the road blockage case, but investigations are ongoing. We are also reviewing available CCTV footage from the area,” the police concluded.
