AIADMK Holds Major Meeting to Strategize for 2026 Elections and Potential Alliances

Chennai, Dec 15 (NationPress) The AIADMK general council along with the executive committee convened on Sunday at the Shrivaaru Venkataachalapathy Palace Hall in Vanagaram, Chennai, with a keen emphasis on the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections and the party's internal dynamics.

During the meeting, Tamilmagan Hussain, the chairman of the party's presidium, took the lead as the chairperson. The assembly saw participation from 2,523 general and executive committee members, in addition to 1,000 special invitees.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the general secretary of the AIADMK and former Chief Minister, is anticipated to deliver a significant address during this session.

This meeting marks the first gathering since his appointment as the AIADMK general secretary. In a statement released on Sunday, the party underscored that a primary agenda item is a resolution that denounces both the central and state governments.

This resolution is slated for discussion and approval during the session. Additional topics on the agenda encompass tungsten mining permits in Madurai, insufficient storm and rain relief support, and the party’s internal elections.

The meeting experienced some unrest earlier on as party members lacking invitation passes were barred from entry. Numerous cadres, who had not received invitations, created a disturbance, engaging in disputes with security personnel for access to the meeting venue.

The AIADMK faces ongoing hurdles following its loss in the 2021 Assembly elections and the ousting of former Chief Minister and prominent Thevar leader, O. Panneerselvam (OPS).

The party is making efforts to reclaim its position after securing merely one Lok Sabha seat in Theni out of 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu during the 2019 general elections and failing to win any seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Since 2011, it is noteworthy that the AIADMK governed Tamil Nadu consecutively for ten years, and in the 2021 Assembly elections, it garnered approximately 33.29 percent of the votes, winning 66 seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it achieved a 22.6 percent vote share.

According to insiders within the party, the ongoing meeting is evaluating strategies for the 2026 Assembly elections, with a primary emphasis on future electoral alliances.
