Rajkot, April 12 (NationPress) The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot has witnessed a significant increase in surgical procedures, soaring from 861 in 2024 to 1,927 in 2025. This surge indicates a notable enhancement in the institute's clinical capacity, driven by a rise in patient visits and academic enrollment.

According to data from the institute, 360 surgeries were conducted in early 2026 until February, averaging 180 per month, showcasing consistent growth in surgical services.

Currently, the hospital serves approximately 800–900 patients each day and has attended to a total of 857,315 patients since its inception.

Emergency care is a crucial aspect, with the facility managing 23,147 cases thus far, while 11,589 patients have been admitted for inpatient services, averaging around 650 admissions monthly.

“AIIMS Rajkot offers 24/7 emergency and trauma services to provide immediate and critical care for patients. The initial 24 hours of service are provided free of charge,” stated the institute.

Additionally, the institute has set up modular operation theatres and well-equipped intensive care units to facilitate advanced patient management.

The hospital encompasses 22 specialty and six super-specialty departments, including general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, psychiatry, and dentistry.

Services in super-specialties include neurosurgery, urology, pulmonary medicine, and burns and plastic surgery, as well as pediatric neurology, pulmonology, and neonatology.

“Both general and super-specialty medical services are available, ensuring comprehensive patient care under one roof,” the institute stated.

The institute also emphasizes the provision of advanced diagnostic services, including CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, and digital X-rays, supported by laboratory services and a robust electronic medical record system developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.

On the academic side, the institute has increased its MBBS enrollment from 50 students annually since 2020 to 75 seats starting from the 2025–26 academic year.

The expanded intake has been finalized, bringing the total number of undergraduate students to 274 across five batches.

The faculty comprises 81 members, supplemented by senior and junior residents, nursing officers, and technical staff.

Furthermore, an AYUSH department, operational since March 13, 2024, has treated over 3,500 outpatients, broadening the scope of services offered.

Established in 2020 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS Rajkot is progressing towards becoming a 750-bed tertiary care facility, aimed at enhancing access to specialized healthcare and medical education in the region.
