New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has temporarily suspended its protest activities regarding amendments to the Waqf Act due to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals and left 17 others severely injured.

In their announcement, the AIMPLB expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and offered condolences to the victims' families.

“In solidarity with those grieving, the Board has decided to halt its campaign against the Waqf Act amendments for three days,” the statement noted.

Dr S.Q.R. Ilyas, the National Convener of the Majlis-e-Amal for Waqf Protection under the AIMPLB, condemned the attack, labeling it a “deeply tragic and inhumane act of terror.”

He further stated that such violence not only shatters lives but also disturbs social harmony and peace.

“In light of this tragedy, the Board will observe a three-day mourning period by ceasing all protest actions linked to the Waqf Protection Campaign,” Dr Ilyas declared.

A notification has been circulated to all state and district conveners of the campaign, directing them to pause protest events and public mobilizations during this mourning period.

Dr Ilyas reaffirmed that this suspension is temporary and that the campaign will recommence after the mourning concludes.

The terror attack, the most devastating in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama incident, took place on Tuesday at Baisaran, a picturesque meadow in the Anantnag district, which is accessible only on foot or by pony. A group of tourists visiting the site was attacked.

The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the assault. Official government confirmation is awaited.

Condemning the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who truncated his visit to Saudi Arabia to return and assess the situation, asserted that those responsible for this “heinous act will face justice and will not escape punishment.”
