Ajay Rai Embraces Gandhian Principles After Police Notice to Delay Sambhal Visit

Lucknow, Dec 2 (NationPress) The police in Lucknow have formally notified the Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai to delay his planned trip to Sambhal on Monday.

This notification was issued to maintain public order and comply with the restrictions set by the District Magistrate of Sambhal under Section 163 BNSS, given the sensitive communal atmosphere in this violence-affected area.

Rai, alongside other Congress officials, had intended to visit Sambhal on the same day.

In reaction to the police's request, Rai stated that the restriction on external visitors was lifted after November 30, and the Congress party strategically planned their visit for December 2.

"We had predetermined that the ban was in effect until November 30, which is why we announced December 2 for our visit. We aim to conduct ourselves in a Gandhian manner," Rai conveyed to IANS.

"Our goal is to evaluate the situation there and comprehend the atrocities and violence the residents have faced," he continued.

Rai emphasized the Congress's dedication to non-violent approaches.

"The notice was issued under Section 163 this morning. Nonetheless, we are resolute in pursuing this in our own Gandhian style," he remarked.

This news follows a previous incident on Saturday when a delegation of 15 members from the Samajwadi Party (SP), headed by Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, was obstructed by a heavy police presence while attempting to visit Sambhal.

Under the direction of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, the delegation aimed to collect information about the violence and compile a report for the party's leadership. However, they were prevented from leaving Pandey’s residence and were blocked by security forces even when trying to reach the party office.

The unrest in Sambhal began on November 24 when a court-ordered survey team arrived at the contested Mughal-era Jama Masjid, amid allegations of a Harihar temple being located at that site.

Protesters retaliated against the police and survey team with stones, leading to violent confrontations. Vehicles were set ablaze, and gunfire erupted, resulting in the deaths of four young individuals and injuries to many, including law enforcement and officials. The assailants also inflicted extensive damage.

In response, authorities suspended Internet services and prohibited outsider access to restore peace in the locality. A substantial police presence has been established around the Shahi Jama Masjid, especially during Friday prayers.

Reports suggest that normalcy is slowly returning to Sambhal, with schools reopening and routine activities resuming. However, the contentious issue surrounding the disputed location continues to attract political and public scrutiny.
