Congress Accuses UP Government of Covering Up Misdeeds After Police Blockade of Rahul Gandhi's Visit to Sambhal

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with MP Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress officials, were halted by police while they sought to enter the violence-stricken Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Wednesday. On Thursday, Congress leader Ajai Rai and party spokesperson Pawan Khera criticized the Yogi Adityanath-led government for allegedly attempting to cover up its misdeeds in Sambhal.

Ajai Rai, in an interview with IANS, asserted that the UP government was trying to obscure the reality surrounding the violence in Sambhal, which resulted in the deaths of five youths. He suggested that the events were premeditated and involved police actions that led to the fatalities.

Rai also took issue with the UP police’s assertions regarding Pakistan's involvement in the violence, emphasizing that Congress leaders had been obstructed from investigating the situation.

"If there is something, we will find out whether it’s linked to Pakistan, the US, the UK, or even the BJP or RSS. But it will come out only when we will go there," Rai stated.

Pawan Khera expressed exasperation over the police's actions, questioning the rationale behind blocking LoP Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi, and other Congress leaders from entering Sambhal.

"Ask them why they are stopping us from going there. They are not going and are not allowing us to go there also. I don't know what they are trying to hide," he remarked.

Khera further accused the BJP government of fostering animosity and attempting to suppress the truth.

He also raised concerns regarding the delayed beef ban in Assam, questioning why it had not been enforced earlier after years of governance.

The Congress convoy encountered a blockade around 11 A.M. on Wednesday at a police barricade along the highway. Despite attempts by LoP Rahul Gandhi and fellow Congress leaders to negotiate with senior police officials, they were denied access to UP.

This obstruction caused significant traffic disruptions as Congress workers attempted to breach the barricades.

LoP Rahul Gandhi characterized the police's actions as a breach of his constitutional rights and accused the BJP of utilizing law enforcement to stifle the message of truth and fraternity.

The police have implemented restrictions on entry into Sambhal until December 10, following violent incidents connected to a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, which some believe was previously the site of a Hindu temple.

Five individuals were killed in the Sambhal violence on November 24, with many others injured, including 20 policemen.
