Rahul Gandhi Claims Violation of Constitutional Rights After Police Intervention During Sambhal Visit

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, encountered a blockade at the Ghazipur border on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway while en route to the violence-stricken Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. He expressed that this incident constituted a denial of his constitutional rights.

Taking to the social media platform X, LoP Rahul Gandhi voiced his frustration, stating: "The police obstructed our path to Sambhal. As the Leader of Opposition, it is my prerogative and obligation to visit there. Yet, I was prevented from doing so. I offered to go alone, but they refused that as well. This action contradicts the Constitution. What is the BJP afraid of? Why is it employing the police to conceal its failures? Why is it stifling the message of truth and unity?"

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi supported Rahul Gandhi’s claims, adding, "We aspire for peace and prosperity. Even in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi promoted peace. I question the BJP's rationale for obstructing such efforts. When any political figure aims to disseminate a message of peace, why is there resistance?"

Conversely, BJP leaders justified the choice to halt the Congress delegation, citing the need to preserve peace and order.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh commented, "He was supposed to be stopped, but he aimed to create a political spectacle, to portray himself as a friend to Muslims or to determine who holds more influence – himself or Akhilesh Yadav. They seldom mention atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, yet they react instantly if any Muslim is harmed. They are frustrated following the Haryana and Maharashtra elections."

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also weighed in, stressing the necessity of the ongoing investigation in Sambhal. He stated, "An investigation is currently in progress in Sambhal as per court directives. The investigation team must be allowed to conduct their work, and no individual or group is authorized to enter. This is a court order, and the state government is adhering to it. Rahul Gandhi should also cooperate with the judicial process."

The Congress party has vehemently condemned the government’s decision, while BJP leaders have accused the Opposition of trying to politicize sensitive matters.
