Congress MP Files Adjournment Motion in Lok Sabha Regarding Rahul Gandhi's Visit to Sambhal

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) Congress MP Manickam Tagore formally submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday regarding the incident where Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was barred from traveling to Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh.

Tagore emphasized that it was a serious issue that the LoP was obstructed from visiting Sambhal to understand the local conditions surrounding the recent Jama Masjid situation and other regional conflicts.

He remarked, “The goal was to foster peace and unity, yet this undemocratic and unconstitutional action by the government infringes upon the fundamental principles embedded in our constitution that guarantee freedom of movement and the right to engage with citizens. The Modi government purports to uphold constitutional values, yet actions like these starkly contradict such claims. Preventing the LoP from interacting with the affected individuals in Sambhal raises significant concerns about the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and constitutional rights,” Tagore asserted in his notice.

The Congress MP called upon the House to regard this issue with utmost seriousness and demand an immediate clarification from the government. “This is an effort to silence dissent and suppress the opposition’s voice, undermining the citizens’ rights to express their concerns,” he stated.

Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who were en route to Sambhal on Wednesday, were halted at the Ghazipur border on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Police officials stopped the Congress MPs, along with numerous party leaders and supporters, citing the law and order situation in Sambhal.

On the social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi expressed his frustration, stating: “The police halted our journey to Sambhal. As the Leader of Opposition, it is my right and duty to go there, yet I was prevented from doing so. I am willing to proceed alone, but they refused that too. This is against the Constitution. Why is the BJP afraid? Why are they employing the police to conceal their failures? Why are they stifling the message of truth and brotherhood?”

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi supported Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, stating, “We desire peace and prosperity. Even in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi contributed to peace. I question the BJP’s motives for obstructing such efforts. When any political leader aims to spread a message of peace, why do they impede that?”

The BJP rebuked the Congress regarding the visit. Rajya Sabha MP and National Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a fierce critique of the Lok Sabha LoP on Wednesday for attempting to visit the violence-affected Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that this was a tactic to vie for the vote bank against the Samajwadi Party in the BJP-governed state.
