Mumbai, May 5 (NationPress) On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar emphasized the necessity for Microsoft and governmental bodies to engage in discussions aimed at formulating skill development training programs. These programs should cater to the demand for skilled professionals proficient in Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various fields, including agriculture, industry, trade, cooperation, education, health, and urban development.
He advocated for tailored courses designed specifically for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnic students, as well as those pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
To effectively develop these courses, the departments focused on industry, technical education, and skill development ought to assume the role of guides and coordinators, as stated by Pawar during a meeting at the Mantralaya.
“The rising integration of Artificial Intelligence across all state government sectors, including agriculture, industry, trade, and cooperation, is essential. We welcome any collaboration with Microsoft or any other entity willing to assist the state in this endeavor,” asserted Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
He pledged full cooperation and support from the Maharashtra government.
“An MoU has been finalized between Microsoft and the state government to enhance the application of AI technology, which includes establishing AI centers throughout the state. These AI Centres of Excellence are expected to boost efficiency, transparency, and digital literacy within the administration.
“Similar to the Microsoft Centre of Excellence in Noida and Google's IT Park in Hyderabad, efforts are underway to create an IT Park or Innovation Centre through the initiative of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Baramati,” he remarked while presiding over a meeting to assess its current status.
“The discussions included establishing world-class laboratories in collaboration with Microsoft and the proposed Centre of Excellence of AI by Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati. This also encompasses initiating training on AI applications at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Baramati, enhancing AI technology usage in agriculture, and facilitating knowledge exchange between Microsoft and the government. Furthermore, it aims to promote effective AI technology utilization, digital skill development, initiate research centers, and make Microsoft's e-Sanjeevani technology available for cancer treatment at the Medical College in Baramati, Silver Jubilee Hospital, and other state hospitals,” stated the release from the Deputy Chief Minister's office.
During his recent visit to India, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the transformative influence of AI on agriculture.
In a post on X, Nadella highlighted the plight of small-town sugarcane farmers facing immense difficulties due to pests, droughts, and diseases, leading to significant issues including debt and suicide.
He further elaborated, “I wanted to underscore the situation of small farmers associated with the Baramati Co-op, showcasing how this powerful technology can make a difference, enabling smallholders to enhance their land’s productivity. The data they presented regarding chemical reduction, improved water management, and ultimately increased yield was astonishing.”
Moreover, he mentioned the potential of utilizing geospatial data from drones and satellites to assist farmers in their own languages.
