Mumbai, June 25 (NationPress) Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district guardian minister Ajit Pawar expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet members for their endorsement of two significant projects under Phase II of the Pune Metro Rail Project. This includes the routes from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (Route 2A) and Ramwadi to Wagholi-Vitthalwadi (Route 2B), with a total investment of Rs 3,626 crore.
The initiative aims to enhance east-west connectivity by connecting the city’s central regions with the rapidly expanding suburbs, addressing the growing need for effective and sustainable public transportation.
Pawar also expressed his belief that the Union Cabinet’s decision would be pivotal in alleviating traffic congestion in Pune, enhancing the public transport framework, and fostering the economic, industrial, commercial, and educational growth of Pune and its nearby regions.
“The first phase of the Pune Metro Rail Project involved the construction of the Vanaj to Ramwadi line. The recently approved second phase encompasses completion of the routes Vanaj to Chandni Chowk (Line 2A) and Ramwadi to Wagholi-Vitthalwadi (Line 2B),” he stated.
He highlighted that both lines will be elevated, covering a length of 12.75 kilometres with a total of 13 stations.
“This service will primarily cater to passengers from Chandni Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi suburbs. This project is also crucial for the IT, commercial, and industrial development of Pune, with plans for completion in the next four years,” he added.
In a related context, Pawar convened a meeting of the project management unit (PMU) to review key development projects in the state, including Pune. He urged the acceleration of the 'Ahilyanagar-Beed-Parli' railway project, which is vital for the development of Marathwada.
Additionally, he instructed the administration to initiate a special campaign aimed at relocating all government offices in the state to self-owned buildings instead of rented facilities, ensuring necessary funds are allocated and prioritizing the construction of these buildings.
