Bengaluru, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have formally submitted a chargesheet against 12 individuals to the court regarding the dissemination of offensive messages aimed at Kannada actress and former Congress MP Ramya. This action follows her expression of sympathy for the family affected by the fan murder case involving actor Darshan.

All 12 individuals implicated are fans of Darshan, who is currently the second accused in the murder case. His partner, Pavithra Gowda, holds the position of first accused.

At present, both Darshan and Gowda are incarcerated in Bengaluru Central Jail.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru has delivered a comprehensive 380-page chargesheet to the 45th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court. The police have also included screenshot evidence of the messages and comments made on various social media platforms.

This chargesheet encompasses the statements from actress Ramya as well as the confessions from the accused individuals. Although charges have been filed against 12 people, law enforcement continues to pursue an additional six suspects.

Authorities have indicated that a supplementary chargesheet will be prepared once the remaining individuals are apprehended and interrogated. Among the 12 apprehended, four remain in custody while the others have been granted bail.

The court is anticipated to commence trial proceedings shortly.

Ramya faced harassment from Darshan’s fans following her post regarding the fan murder case, where she emphasized the need for justice.

In response to the harassment, Ramya lodged a complaint against 43 social media accounts, with some individuals even issuing rape threats.

On July 28, Ramya formally reported to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh regarding the threats and obscene messages she received after commenting on the murder case.

Ramya stated, “I shared information about the Supreme Court's ruling concerning Darshan's bail to instill hope among the public regarding justice. Subsequently, I was subjected to trolling. I am filing this complaint as a voice for women.”

“I have reported 43 social media accounts. Some have even threatened me with rape. If this can occur to me, what about others? Commissioner Singh has assured me of action and transferred the case to the Cyber Crime Wing. Women deserve the same freedoms as men. Darshan should have advised his fans against such behavior,” she continued.

“As public figures, it is imperative that we adhere to the law and set a precedent for others. Previously, superstars Yash and Kichcha Sudeep were also subjected to online attacks. I raised concerns back then as well. Had action been taken earlier, the situation might not have reached this extent,” she remarked.

Ramya also highlighted that many of the accused were utilizing fake profiles with female names to post inappropriate content. While she has received support from the film community, she noted that numerous women are reluctant to speak out due to fears of character defamation.

Point of View

It is our responsibility to highlight the serious issue of online harassment, especially against women in the public eye. The charges filed against the fans of Darshan underscore the urgent need for societal change and stronger legal action to protect individuals from such vile attacks. This case not only reflects the personal struggles of Ramya but also serves as a broader commentary on the treatment of women in our society.
