Bengaluru, July 28 (NationPress) The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has taken action regarding the inappropriate messages and videos circulating among fans of actor Darshan against Kannada actress and former MP Ramya. They have reached out to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh to address the situation.

Ramya expressed her desire for justice in the fan murder case where actor Darshan is implicated as the second accused. This statement followed the Supreme Court's dissatisfaction with the Karnataka High Court's decision to grant bail to Darshan, as it awaits a verdict on the matter.

Commission Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary has officially contacted the Commissioner after taking suo motu notice of the issue.

During a media briefing in Bengaluru, she remarked: "We will pursue action against individuals disseminating degrading content aimed at women. Sharing defamatory or obscene material against women is a grave offense. We have received complaints about the abusive messages directed at actress Ramya and have taken suo motu notice of it."

"The messages are profoundly tasteless, filled with sexually explicit remarks. This is a significant legal violation. We have instructed the police to initiate legal proceedings against the offenders, block their accounts, and provide a report on the actions taken," she further stated.

"Everyone is entitled to express their views, but it must be done with responsibility. Attacking women with vulgar and defamatory comments is intolerable. No one holds the authority to judge — that is the court's responsibility. We must remember that making obscene and objectionable statements against women is a punishable offense, possibly leading to a seven-year prison sentence if convicted. I urge those responsible for such comments to seriously contemplate the repercussions and their future,” she underscored.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara affirmed on Monday that action would be taken if actress Ramya files a formal complaint.

In response to the online harassment, Ramya stated: "Darshan and I share a friendship, and I communicate with his wife. However, what is wrong cannot be justified. I will not submit to anyone, be it a politician or an actor. I plan to file a police complaint regarding this. I will consult my team and decide. If fans can sink to this level, how are they different from (murder victim) Renukaswamy?"

Renukaswamy was reportedly murdered by actor Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and others due to sending inappropriate messages to Pavithra.

Reports indicate that Ramya intends to meet Bengaluru Police Commissioner to file a formal complaint by Monday evening.

When asked about the situation, Opposition Leader R. Ashoka remarked: "Darshan and Ramya have collaborated in films. We prefer not to comment on issues concerning their fans."

Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda commented on the controversy, stating that social media has become detrimental to society. "Those who are not accepted in other circles resort to it as a final option. Although I haven't seen the messages, such misuse of social media is unacceptable. Anyone can post offensive remarks, and that is deeply troubling," he noted.

Point of View

I acknowledge the alarming rise of online abuse, particularly against women in the entertainment industry. This incident underscores the urgent need for stricter regulations on social media conduct. The Karnataka State Women’s Commission is rightly taking action to protect individuals like Ramya, reinforcing the message that abusive behavior will not be tolerated. Society must remain vigilant in upholding respect and dignity for all.
