Lucknow, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Chief Minister Mayawati expressed her disapproval on Thursday of the Congress and Samajwadi Party for their tendency to engage in theatrics and for exploiting Dalits and other marginalized groups during their time in office.

Speaking at a rally in the state capital of Uttar Pradesh to commemorate the death anniversary of Kanshi Ram, the founder of BSP, she accused the former SP and Congress administrations of maintaining a casteist and capitalist approach that led to the mistreatment and oppression of Dalits, OBCs, and the vulnerable segments of society.

Intensifying her criticism of the Congress, Mayawati remarked: "During the Emergency of 1975, the Congress disregarded the Constitution established by Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and rendered it ineffective. They also denied Baba Saheb the Bharat Ratna."

She further stated, "Currently, the Congress is merely performing, holding a copy of the Constitution in front of them."

Mayawati also took aim at the SP for allegedly manipulating Kanshi Ram's name to attract voters, in reference to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s recent plans for a symposium honoring the BSP founder.

She questioned the SP's questionable character, asserting that they forget about PDA, saints, gurus, and Babasaheb when in power, urging the public to be cautious of them.

Mayawati condemned the SP for targeting Dalits and OBCs while fostering criminal activity, which she claimed has led to the deterioration of law and order in the state.

She expressed gratitude towards the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government for investing funds from the Kanshiram Samarak Sthal (memorial) into the renovation of the area, a contrast to the previous SP administration.

However, Mayawati criticized the BJP government for failing to adequately support Dalits and the oppressed classes, appealing to the people to help establish a BSP majority government.

In remembrance of Kanshi Ram, she highlighted the sacrifices he made during his government job for the betterment of Dalits and the underprivileged.

Mayawati also acknowledged Kanshi Ram's significant contributions towards realizing Babasaheb's vision and advocating for the welfare of Dalits and Other Backward Classes.

She concluded by noting that throughout her tenure, she championed the inclusive development of all, including upper castes, guided by her party's principle of 'Sarvjan Hitay and Sarvjan Sukhay'.

Point of View

It's essential to recognize the significance of Mayawati's criticisms towards major political parties. Her focus on Dalit rights and social justice reflects a broader narrative in Indian politics that demands accountability and genuine representation for marginalized communities. The discourse surrounding these issues is crucial for fostering an inclusive democracy.
