Jaipur, April 17 (NationPress) An atmosphere of fear enveloped parts of Ajmer when liquor entrepreneur Jitendra Rangwani was threatened with death and extorted for Rs 2 crore, purportedly by members of the Rohit Godara gang.

The threats were conveyed through WhatsApp calls and audio messages. Authorities have initiated an investigation following the registration of a case, officials reported on Friday.

Reports indicate that the threat reached Rangwani on Thursday around 4:00 P.M. while he was at a salon in Bhagwanganj for a haircut.

He received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number. When he didn’t answer, the caller sent threatening voice messages and made several repeated calls. The caller allegedly identified himself as Rahul Fatehpuria and Virendra Charan, claiming to be affiliated with the Rohit Godara gang, which is suspected of having connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.

The criminals demanded Rs 2 crore and warned Rangwani of severe consequences for non-compliance.

In their messages, they issued a chilling warning, suggesting that Rangwani could face a fate similar to that of Ramesh Rulania, who was murdered in a high-profile case in Kuchaman in October 2025.

The threatening messages and specific references suggested that the criminals were closely monitoring his activities.

In response to the complaint, police officials, including SP Harshvardhan Agarwala and other senior personnel, have commenced an investigation.

A case has been lodged at Haribhau Upadhyay Nagar Police Station, and security has been enhanced for Rangwani, with an armed constable assigned to his protection.

Ajmer SP, Harshvardhan Agrawala stated, “Victim Jitendra Rangwani has received a threatening call from individuals claiming to represent Rohit Godara. A ransom of Rs 2 crore has been demanded. To ensure the victim's safety, one armed constable has already been deployed. A police team has been organized, and necessary actions are underway.”

Police teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the salon, Rangwani’s home, and his business locations.

The cyber cell has also been involved to trace the source of the WhatsApp calls, which are suspected to have been made using virtual or international numbers.

This incident contributes to a rising series of extortion threats directed at prominent figures in Ajmer.

Previously, YouTuber Dilraj Singh Rawat, known as ‘Mr. Indian Hacker,’ and businessman Vijay Singh Palada also reported similar threats.

Authorities have assured that the perpetrators will be identified shortly and stringent action will be taken. However, this incident has increased anxiety among the business community and political circles in the area.
