What Happened in Ajmer After the Torrential Rains?

Ajmer, July 19 (NationPress) Following two consecutive days of incessant rainfall, life has come to a grinding halt in Rajasthan's Ajmer. This has resulted in extensive waterlogging, flooding of residences, and tragic loss of life, according to officials.

In a heartbreaking incident near Kishangarh, three young girls tragically drowned in a stream in Untda village. Thankfully, a fourth girl was rescued and is now receiving medical attention.

In the Dargah area, rising floodwaters swept away several individuals.

Shopkeepers and eyewitnesses sprang into action, tossing ropes to rescue the victims, likely averting further calamity.

The city’s primary roads and inner streets have been engulfed by water, leading to traffic chaos and making residential zones almost unreachable.

In Keriyon Ki Dhani, floodwaters have invaded approximately 20 homes, prompting emergency response teams to remain vigilant.

The Ana Sagar Lake, which typically has a full capacity of 13 feet, has surged to 15 feet 11 inches, exceeding its safe limit.

Ongoing water inflow raises alarm among local authorities.

Nearby, Varun Sagar Lake has also started to overflow, with adjacent areas facing significant flooding.

From 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday, Ajmer experienced 64 mm of rainfall.

Due to drainage operations at Ana Sagar Lake, authorities have closed the road linking Bajranggarh and Fountain Circle, compelling residents to take a two-kilometer detour instead of the usual 500 meters.

Despite ongoing pumping efforts, the volume of water is still overwhelming.

Ajmer District Collector Lok Bandhu visited the affected areas late Saturday night and has been closely monitoring the situation since early Saturday morning.

Later that afternoon, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani inspected the rain-stricken neighborhoods and assessed the relief efforts initiated by local administration and emergency services.

As the relentless rains submerged vast sections of Ajmer, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) emerged as a beacon of hope for residents trapped in floodwaters.

In a large-scale rescue operation that commenced on the evening of July 18, SDRF personnel successfully saved 176 individuals from various inundated colonies, demonstrating remarkable bravery and dedication.

SDRF Commandant Rajendra Singh Sisodia stated that the operation was initiated following an emergency alert received at 7:30 p.m. on July 18 from the Ajmer Police Control Room.

Reports indicated that multiple citizens were stranded in various locations due to rapidly rising water levels.

Swiftly responding, the Jaipur SDRF Control Room dispatched two rescue teams, led by Head Constables Baggi Meena and Bajrang Lal.

By Saturday evening, a 19-member rescue team, equipped with disaster management gear, reached the flooded areas and commenced operations without delay, saving numerous lives.
