New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, who faces allegations of orchestrating an attack on a police unit and threatening officers in Jamia Nagar, managed to obtain temporary protection from arrest until February 24, as ruled by a court here.

Following the examination of Amanatullah Khan's plea for anticipatory bail, Special Judge Jitendra Singh issued the interim protection order, instructing the MLA from Okhla to cooperate with the investigation whenever necessary.

The Delhi Police filed an FIR against the lawmaker, claiming he interrupted a Crime Branch operation.

The FIR references several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 221, 132, and 121(1), which involve harboring offenders, obstructing public officials, and conspiracy against the state.

On Monday, the Crime Branch conducted a raid in Jamia Nagar to apprehend Shahbaz Khan, a criminal wanted for attempted murder. During this operation, Amanatullah Khan reportedly intervened, allowing Shahbaz Khan to evade capture.

Police officials assert that Amanatullah Khan and his associates intentionally disrupted the police action, resulting in disorder.

Authorities also claimed that Amanatullah Khan and his supporters assaulted police personnel during the confrontation.

After the incident, Delhi Police charged Amanatullah Khan for allegedly leading an assault on a police team sent to arrest Shahbaz Khan, who is implicated in a 2018 attempted murder case.

Amanatullah Khan has denied the allegations of evading arrest.

In a correspondence addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the AAP leader denied the accusations, claiming he was not in hiding and accusing the police of falsely incriminating him.

Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has accused the Delhi Police of filing a "fabricated case" against Amanatullah Khan, alleging that the accusations were concocted to target political adversaries.

Kakkar stated to IANS, "The suspect the police aimed to arrest was already released on bail. When the pertinent legal documents were presented to the police, they tried to conceal their error by wrongfully implicating Amanatullah Khan in this case."

"This is a bogus case against Amanatullah Khan. The police remained inactive when stones were thrown at Arvind Kejriwal's vehicle. Conversely, BJP MP Parvesh Verma held a press conference in defense of criminals involved in robbery and dacoity,” she added.

On the opposite side, BJP leaders have stressed that 'gunda gardi (lawlessness)' will not be tolerated in the nation’s capital.

In a conversation with IANS, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh remarked, "Both Delhi and the nation are posing the same query: Where is this criminal MLA? Who is concealing him, and who is providing him shelter? The AAP has become a refuge for corrupt, deceitful criminals. It’s a tragic reality that the AAP has transformed into a sanctuary for such individuals nationwide."

Lok Sabha member Yogendra Chandolia added his voice, emphasizing, "If the police are investigating him, he is somewhere in Delhi. So why doesn’t he simply visit the police station to cooperate? Is he hiding in some basement within the city? The Delhi Police should act promptly and apprehend him now."

He continued, "Gunda Raj has no place in Delhi. Just because Amanatullah Khan is an MLA doesn’t mean he is above the law. If the police fail to arrest him within 24 hours, they should hold his family responsible, just as they would with any ordinary criminal. They will summon them, sit them down, and compel them to bring him to the station. Then, only after considerable effort, will Khan most likely show up." Amanatullah Khan recently retained his Okhla Assembly seat in the February 5 elections, achieving victory by a margin of 23,639 votes.

Despite this, his party, AAP, experienced a significant decline, capturing only 22 seats — a drop from 62 previously — while the BJP made a strong comeback, securing 48 seats and regaining power in Delhi after 27 years.
