New Delhi, July 28 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha experienced tense exchanges on Monday during discussions surrounding Operation Sindoor, as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar detailed India’s robust diplomatic and military actions following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

An array of interruptions from Opposition MPs, notably from Congress, prompted Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene, defending Jaishankar and demanding decorum in the House.

In the face of heckling from the Opposition, Shah firmly criticized their behavior. “Do you not have faith in your own Foreign Minister, who has taken a constitutional oath?” he asked, visibly frustrated.

He accused the Opposition of undermining national institutions.

“It’s regrettable that they choose not to believe what India’s Foreign Minister conveys but are quick to accept narratives from abroad. I recognize that the term ‘foreign’ carries weight in their party’s (Congress) name - but it shouldn’t overshadow national interests in this House,” Shah remarked, directly targeting Congress.

He continued, “This is precisely why they are in the Opposition today—and they are likely to remain there for the next 20 years.”

Requesting Speaker Om Birla to intervene, Shah insisted that Jaishankar be allowed to speak without interruptions.

“The opposition's frequent interjections are unwarranted. We can also disrupt, and if our members start doing so, it won’t be easy to halt them,” he cautioned.

Despite the uproar, Jaishankar proceeded with his statement, framing India’s diplomatic initiatives as a significant triumph in the global battle against terrorism. Referencing The Resistance Front (TRF) - a proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba responsible for the Pahalgam attack - he emphasized how relentless diplomatic efforts resulted in the United States designating TRF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

“This was not a mere coincidence,” Jaishankar stated. “It is the culmination of years of persistent pressure and persuasion on international platforms.”

He highlighted the broader global support for India’s counterterrorism efforts.

“We’ve witnessed a remarkable shift. Even significant terror hubs like Bahawalpur and Muridke are now under scrutiny and facing serious action - something many would not have predicted until recently,” he pointed out, referencing long-guarded terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan.

The minister stressed that India is no longer isolated in this regard. “We have received unequivocal backing from major global alliances like the Quad and BRICS. Even China, as a member of BRICS, condemned the Pahalgam attack,” he noted, underscoring the increasing global consensus against cross-border terrorism.

Citing remarks from international leaders, Jaishankar added, “The German Foreign Minister explicitly stated that India has every right to defend itself. France and the European Union mirrored this sentiment.”

He asserted that India’s approach to national security is both resolute and internationally endorsed.

“Our actions are not merely military; they are bolstered by a strong diplomatic consensus. The world is no longer ignoring terrorism directed at India,” he concluded.

Point of View
