New Delhi, May 4 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Sunday that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a conducive environment has emerged nationwide for the revival of Sanskrit.
While addressing the closing ceremony of 1,008 Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivirs in the capital, HM Shah mentioned that around 18 projects have been initiated under the Ashtadashi scheme, with the Central government offering financial assistance for the publishing, bulk purchasing, and reprinting of rare Sanskrit texts.
He also acknowledged PM Modi for increasing the honorarium for eminent Sanskrit scholars.
HM Shah highlighted that one of the most crucial initiatives of the PM Modi-led government is a nationwide campaign with a budget nearing Rs 500 crore, focused on gathering scattered manuscripts in Sanskrit and Prakrit.
He mentioned that PM Modi has inaugurated the Gyan Bharatam Mission with a foundational corpus of Rs 500 crore aimed at manuscript preservation, with future budget allocations planned.
Furthermore, he noted that over 52 lakh manuscripts have been documented, approximately 3.5 lakh digitized, and 1,37,000 made available online at namami.gov.in.
To bolster this extensive initiative, a team of scholars from various fields and languages has been formed to translate and preserve these rare manuscripts.
HM Shah commended Sanskrit Bharati for its outstanding and bold initiative in organizing 1,008 Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivirs. He remarked that the decline of Sanskrit started even before the colonial era, and its revival will necessitate time and persistent efforts.
The event was attended by several esteemed dignitaries, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
HM Shah asserted that since 1981, Sanskrit Bharati has been dedicated to showcasing the vast knowledge contained in Sanskrit to the world and empowering millions to learn and converse in the language.
He emphasized that many distinguished global scholars recognize Sanskrit as the most scientific language. Advocating for a forward-thinking approach, he urged that instead of reflecting on the historical decline of Sanskrit, efforts should now concentrate on its revival.
