Srinagar, April 23 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday asserted that those responsible for the cruel terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam will face justice, emphasizing that India will not yield to cowardly acts of terror.
The attack, which unfolded in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, resulted in the tragic deaths of over two dozen tourists when terrorists emerged from the surrounding forest and opened fire on defenseless civilians.
During his visit to Srinagar, Shah expressed his condolences to the survivors and the families of the victims, promising stringent action against those behind this heinous massacre.
"With a heavy heart, I paid my last respects to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bow to terror. The perpetrators of this despicable attack will not go unpunished," Shah stated in a post on X.
Earlier that day, the Union Minister, along with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, paid homage to the victims at the Police Control Room in Srinagar, where the remains were brought under strict security measures.
In the meantime, the government has acted promptly to assist the victims in returning to their home states.
The Civil Aviation Ministry arranged for four additional flights from Srinagar on Wednesday—two each to Delhi and Mumbai. Authorities have also ensured that airfare remains reasonable despite the high demand for travel, as the Srinagar-Jammu Highway has been closed for the fourth consecutive day.
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived in Srinagar and proceeded to Pahalgam to start gathering evidence related to the terror attack.
A significant combing and search operation is currently ongoing in and around the Baisaran Valley to locate the terrorists responsible for this atrocious assault.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while offering condolences, stated that the attack has only reinforced India's determination to eradicate terrorism from its territory.
"Such acts of cowardice will not dissuade India. We are more committed than ever to eliminating terrorism," the PM remarked.
Locally, the Kashmir valley experienced a near-total shutdown in response to the attack. Shops, businesses, public transportation, and educational institutions remained closed.
The shutdown was initiated by traders, industrialists, political factions, and religious groups, sending a powerful message of solidarity and mourning.
