Srinagar/New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, made a visit to the site of the terror attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, on Wednesday, where terrorists wreaked havoc the previous day, resulting in the deaths of several tourists and numerous injuries.

Arriving at the scene via an Army helicopter, the Home Minister gathered vital information from security personnel regarding the horrific attacks that claimed over a dozen innocent lives.

Tourists were specifically targeted based on their religion and were brutally killed by the terrorists in South Kashmir’s picturesque ‘mini Switzerland’ on Tuesday.

Before heading to Baisaran, HM Shah paid a visit to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag, where he spoke with the injured tourists and inquired about the medical facilities available for their swift recovery.

In a show of support, the J&K Government announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased, ₹2 lakh for those seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries.

At Baisaran, HM Shah also took a moment to pray for the souls of the departed. He engaged with Army, police, and paramilitary officials regarding the ongoing operation to capture those accountable for this cowardly act.

This visit serves as a significant message about the government's commitment to tackling the terror networks responsible for the massacre.

Additionally, the firsthand information collected by the Home Minister will be critical during his briefing to fellow members at the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs (CCS) meeting scheduled for this evening.

Earlier, Amit Shah met survivors of the Pahalgam terror attack and families who lost loved ones in the brutal incident. He listened to their stories, offered condolences, and expressed solidarity with those in mourning.

Videos emerged showing survivors weeping and sharing their grief with the Home Minister, as they called for stringent action against the attackers.

Earlier that day, the Home Minister, along with J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha, honored the deceased tourists from the Pahalgam terror attack.

They visited the Srinagar police control room on Wednesday morning, where the bodies of the victims were held. The Home Minister, CM, and LG paid floral tributes by laying wreaths at the coffins of the murdered tourists.

Simultaneously, arrangements are underway to facilitate the return of the deceased tourists to their hometowns.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has organized four additional flights from Srinagar today, with two each heading to Mumbai and Delhi, and has instructed airlines to refrain from raising air fares excessively.

A complete protest shutdown, called by traders, industrialists, and various political, social, and religious organizations, brought normal life in the Valley to a standstill today.

Public transport, businesses, and educational institutions were all closed, resulting in minimal vehicular movement on roads and highways.
