Amit Shah Announces Major Progress Against Maoism: India Aims for a Naxal-Free Future by 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared in the Lok Sabha that the government is committed to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) from India by the March 31, 2026 deadline established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the discourse on achieving a Naxal-Free India, HM Shah pointed out remarkable achievements against LWE, noting that 706 Maoists have been neutralised, 2,218 arrested, and 4,839 have surrendered in recent years.
He strongly condemned those who spread what he described as a misleading narrative among innocent tribal populations.
“They purport to fight for the rights of tribals, yet they are merely propagating their violent ideology, showing no respect for democracy or development,” he stated.
The Union Minister showcased the significant changes in Bastar, once a hotbed for Maoist activity.
“Currently, Naxalism is nearly eradicated in Bastar (Chhattisgarh). Educational institutions and ration shops are being established in every village, 5 kg of foodgrains are being consistently distributed, Aadhaar cards are being created, and essential services are reaching the local populace,” said HM Shah.
He queried why these developmental advantages were withheld from the residents of Bastar for decades, especially with the Congress party dominating the political landscape for nearly 60 of the 75 years since independence.
“Since 2014, under PM Modi’s leadership, every impoverished individual has received a house, gas connection, drinking water supply, insurance coverage, and foodgrains. Why were the people of Bastar neglected? The answer lies in red terror,” he added.
HM Shah clarified that the government maintains a strict stance against those who oppose the constitutional framework and resort to violence.
“Anyone who resorts to arms will face consequences,” he warned, urging remaining Maoists to surrender and reintegrate into society, assuring them of rehabilitation.
He held previous administrations, particularly the Congress, accountable for their inability to foster development in tribal regions, allowing Maoists to exploit this void and mislead innocent tribals.
This parliamentary discussion occurs just one day before the government’s self-imposed deadline of March 31, 2026, to eliminate LWE from the nation.
HM Shah reiterated the government's unwavering determination to conclude this long-standing issue through a blend of robust security measures and accelerated development in the affected areas.
