Patna, Feb 27 (NationPress) On the concluding day of his visit to Bihar's Seemanchal region, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hosted a significant meeting concerning the management of the India–Nepal border in Purnea on Friday.
The gathering, convened at Zero Mile in the city, aimed at fortifying security measures, thwarting infiltration attempts, and improving intelligence collaboration in border districts.
Shah's focus on actions against infiltrators suggests a potential for stricter enforcement in the near future.
The meeting saw the participation of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, the State Director General of Police (DGP), Inspector General (IG) of the border range, as well as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from twelve districts, alongside District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from border regions, including Purnea, Araria, Katihar, and Kishanganj.
Additionally, various senior administrative and police officials were in attendance.
A comprehensive review was conducted regarding the oversight and management of the nearly 700-km-long India–Nepal border.
In light of insights from security agencies, a new tactical plan was reportedly developed to mitigate illegal activities, suspicious movements, and smuggling in border territories.
Officials underscored the necessity for enhanced technical surveillance along the border, bolstered intelligence networks, improved inter-agency cooperation, activation of border police stations, and increased joint operations between local law enforcement and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
The Seemanchal belt is not only adjacent to Nepal but also to Bangladesh and is strategically positioned near the critical Siliguri Corridor, commonly referred to as the "Chicken Neck" corridor.
Given its strategic importance, officials directed further enhancement of security infrastructure throughout the region.
There were signs that definitive administrative and technological measures regarding border management may soon be revealed.
Purnea city was placed under heightened alert during the visit of the Union Home Minister.
Security protocols included a substantial police presence along key routes, monitoring operations at 100-meter intervals in sensitive zones, route regulation, crowd control measures, and the deployment of health department teams, ambulances, and trauma support units.
Union Minister Amit Shah arrived in Bihar on February 25 for a three-day trip primarily focused on the Seemanchal area.
Throughout his visit, he conducted review meetings in Kishanganj, Araria, and Purnea, engaged with security personnel, and evaluated villages chosen for the Vibrant Village Program–2.
