Anand/Gandhinagar, March 7 (NationPress) - In a significant achievement, the police in Gujarat's Anand district have obtained a complete conviction rate in seven cases filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which took place between March and December 2024. Among these cases, six offenders received life sentences, while another was handed a 20-year prison term.
On Friday, two further verdicts were announced, resulting in life sentences for the accused in both cases.
As a result of these proceedings, six out of the seven convicted individuals now face life imprisonment along with financial penalties, while the last case concluded with a 20-year sentence.
Authorities reported that all the cases pertained to sexual crimes committed against minors. Each chargesheet was submitted within a maximum timeframe of 45 days from the registration of the offence.
The courts delivered verdicts in the majority of the cases within eight to nine months, a process described by police as a concentrated and time-sensitive investigation.
The investigations were overseen by Anand Superintendent of Police G.G. Jasani.
The cases were managed by the then Circle Police Inspector of the Petlad Division, D.R. Chaudhary, who currently serves as Police Inspector at the Borsad police station, along with his dedicated team.
According to police, the investigation team employed a 'top to bottom' strategy when analyzing the cases.
In addition to traditional investigative methods, the team utilized technological tools to enhance the evidence presented in court.
Witness statements and panchnamas were recorded using the e-Sakshya application with video documentation, ensuring the evidence remained intact throughout the judicial process.
Scientific and medical evidence, assisted by the Crime Scene Manager and Forensic Science Laboratory, played a crucial role in achieving these convictions.
Officials noted that the successful combination of prompt investigations, timely filing of charges, and the utilization of scientific evidence contributed to the remarkable 100% conviction rate in these seven cases.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised Police Inspector D.R. Chaudhary and his team for their exemplary work in these investigations.
He stated, 'The preparedness and sensitivity of Gujarat Police further bolster the safety confidence among the daughters of the state and their families.'
Sanghavi emphasized that the state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and minors.
He warned, 'There will be no leniency in cases involving crimes against women and children, with offenders facing strict legal consequences.'
Officials highlighted that the quick investigations and prosecutions in these cases reflect the state government's commitment to ensuring timely action in cases involving minors.
