Andhra: Amaravati Development Works Valued at Rs 8,821 Crore Sanctioned

Amaravati, Dec 10 (NationPress) The development of Andhra Pradesh’s capital city is poised to accelerate as the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) sanctioned projects totaling Rs 8821.44 crore on Tuesday.

The meeting of the CRDA, led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, concentrated on the road construction in Amaravati.

After the meeting, P. Narayana, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), informed the media that of the approved amount, Rs 3,807 crore has been designated for building roads in areas where land was acquired through the land pooling scheme.

The trunk roads will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4521 crore, while Rs 492 crore has been allocated for the construction of bungalows for both Ministers and High Court judges, as clarified by Narayana.

In previous meetings, the CRDA had sanctioned projects worth Rs 11,471 crore. With the approvals from Tuesday's meeting, the total projects now amount to Rs 20,292.46 crore.

Layouts covering an area of 236 km involving villages such as Nelapadu, Rayapudi, Ananthavaram, and Dondapadu have been approved, along with trunk roads spanning 97.5 km, the Minister stated.

Narayana pointed out that tenders for projects worth Rs 41,000 crore were called between 2014 and 2019, with Rs 5,000 crore of work completed. He expressed concern that if the work had been finalized between 2019 and 2024, the construction costs would not have escalated. Due to delays, costs have risen by 25 percent to 28 percent, he noted.

The cost of construction for buildings has surged from 35 percent to 55 percent, Narayana mentioned, adding that if Amaravati had remained the capital, the costs would not have risen by 45 percent. He confirmed that the tendering process for these projects will commence by December 15 and conclude by the end of the month.

Since there are ongoing cases against the designers from Singapore, the approval from the Chief Minister is required to re-engage them, Narayana concluded.
