Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ludhiana, Oct 29 (NationPress) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, accompanied by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, introduced faceless RTO Services on Wednesday to ease the process for the public.
To symbolize a new beginning, the Chief Minister ceremoniously locked the Regional Transport Authority (RTO) office, marking the end of a long-standing era of corruption. During a media interaction, former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal stated that since Independence, the citizens of Punjab had been subjugated by bureaucratic corruption.
However, he emphasized that today marks liberation from such practices, as residents will now be able to obtain their driving licenses, vehicle registration certificates, and other essential services simply by calling 1076.
Kejriwal remarked, “Today, individuals are liberated from corruption, inconvenience, and middlemen,” adding, “This initiative is unprecedented, not just in our nation but across the globe.” He proclaimed that today signifies a historic milestone for Punjab, with the launch of faceless RTO services. This initiative represents a genuine digital revolution within the Transport Department, allowing services to be delivered directly to people's doorsteps.
He further noted that 56 critical services related to driving licenses and vehicle registration are now fully faceless. These services can be accessed via Seva Kendras or through the helpline 1076. Previously, individuals had to visit cyber cafés or navigate the online application process for obtaining licenses and certificates.
After submission, applicants often had to visit RTO offices multiple times for document verification, which posed significant challenges, especially for those in rural areas, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
In his address, Chief Minister Mann acknowledged the considerable inconvenience faced by citizens at RTO offices. With this initiative, he asserted that the era of inconvenience and corruption has been locked away, aligning with the state government's zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Mann expressed that the public has greatly benefited from prior revenue reforms, empowering them significantly. He assured that no employees would be dismissed; rather, their services would be repurposed in other departments based on their qualifications.
