Sunam (Punjab), July 31 (NationPress) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday committed themselves to realizing the aspirations of the martyrs.
While addressing the crowd after laying the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 85 crore aimed at enhancing the appearance of Shaheed Udham Singh town, Kejriwal remarked that Shaheed Udham Singh made a profound sacrifice for the nation's freedom.
“Participating in this event to honor such an iconic martyr is a source of immense pride and satisfaction,” he stated.
Kejriwal emphasized that the freedom struggle of India was marked by innumerable sacrifices made to forge a fair society that ensures the welfare of marginalized and underprivileged communities.
However, he lamented that even after 75 years of independence, the aspirations of these heroes remain unfulfilled as those in power have exploited their authority for personal gain.
He criticized previous governments for devastating Punjab by facilitating the spread of drugs and corruption, stating that they misappropriated public funds for their own benefit.
The former Chief Minister of Delhi highlighted that the current anti-drug campaign is unprecedented in modern Indian history.
In his address, Chief Minister Mann stated that it is the government’s responsibility to honor such legendary martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.
He asserted that naming airports, universities, and other institutions after these iconic martyrs is essential to preserve their illustrious legacy.
Mann noted that citizens are reaping the benefits of freedom thanks to the tremendous sacrifices made by heroes like Shaheed Udham Singh.
He described Shaheed Udham Singh as a true son of the soil, who demonstrated remarkable bravery by assassinating Michael O’ Dwyer, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Mann remarked that the extraordinary sacrifice made by this iconic martyr at the altar of the national freedom struggle was pivotal in liberating the country from British Imperialism.
