Amaravati, Jan 31 (NationPress) The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced an extension of the suspension for senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Additional Director General of Police N. Sanjay until May 31, due to violations of regulations.
The General Administration Department issued an official order prolonging the suspension of the former head of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which is in effect under rule 3 (1) of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.
Sanjay was initially suspended on December 3, 2024.
Allegations have emerged suggesting that this 1993-batch IPS officer was engaged in irregularities during his tenure as Director General of State Disaster Response and Fire Services.
During the prior administration of the YSR Congress Party, Sanjay, in his role as CID chief, oversaw investigations related to the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation scam and the Amravati Inner Ring Road case involving the former Leader of the Opposition and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu. These inquiries led to Naidu's arrest, resulting in nearly two months of incarceration.
After Chandrababu Naidu took office as Chief Minister in June 2024 following a victory for the TDP-led NDA, Sanjay was reassigned and instructed to report to the DGP's office.
The new administration also initiated a Vigilance & Enforcement (V&E) Department investigation into the claims against the IPS officer. The investigation allegedly uncovered that he misused his official capacity to authorize a payment of Rs 1 crore to Sautrika Technologies and Infra Pvt Ltd without any substantial progress on the assigned project. He is accused of bid rigging and favoritism in tender awards, undermining the integrity of the process and violating public trust.
The findings from the Vigilance report suggested that the government should pursue criminal actions against the company and enforce legal penalties on Sanjay under the Central Services Conduct Rules.
On December 24, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a case against him for the alleged misuse of funds.
The ACB's investigation was prompted by a report from the V&E Department that examined the allegations surrounding the IPS officer.
The ACB reached out to the Chief Secretary to obtain clearance to take action against Sanjay under Section 17 A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Upon receiving approval from the Chief Secretary, the ACB proceeded to register a case. Sanjay, currently serving as the Additional Director General of Police, has been identified as accused number one, while Sautrika Technologies and Infra Pvt Ltd and Kritvyap Technologies have been listed as accused number two and three, respectively.
