Andhra Pradesh to Allocate 34% Reservation for Backward Classes in Local Bodies

Amaravati, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, declared on Monday that the state government has resolved to implement a 34 percent reservation for backward classes in local bodies.
He emphasized that the TDP-led NDA Government is dedicated to ensuring the promised 34 percent reservation for BCs in nominated positions. A law will be legislated to uphold this commitment.
Naidu indicated that a decision regarding the legislative process would be made shortly. He assured that all essential actions will be taken to guarantee that the 34 percent quota for BCs will not encounter any legal complications. He instructed officials to proceed following a comprehensive review of court rulings.
He criticized the former government for diminishing the quota for BCs from 34 percent to 24 percent in local bodies, resulting in a loss of 16,500 positions.
During a review meeting focused on the progress of promises made to BCs during the election campaign, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that no legal obstacles or technical issues arise concerning the proposed special law for the protection and welfare of BCs.
As pledged during the recent Assembly elections, he reiterated that a special legislation would be introduced for the community's safety.
A ministerial committee tasked with evaluating the feasibility of this initiative recently presented its preliminary findings. In the review meeting on Monday, the officials updated the Chief Minister on this report, after which he directed them to continue their efforts to avoid legal complications once the law is enacted.
Naidu claimed that the negligence of the previous administration severely affected the BCs.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to urgently address necessary repairs in girls’ hostels and clear outstanding diet bill dues that have been pending for an extended period.
During the previous administration, a total of Rs 110.52 crore in diet bills were overdue, but since the TDP-led NDA assumed power, Rs 76.38 crore worth of bills have been settled. On Monday, he directed the officials to ensure the clearance of the remaining bills as well.
