New Delhi, March 4 (NationPress) In a prompt response to the recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium, the Centre has officially approved the appointment of three permanent judges in the Bombay High Court.

"Utilizing the authority granted by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President has appointed S/Shri Justices (i) Shailesh Pramod Brahme, (ii) Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla, and (iii) Jitendra Shantilal Jain, who were previously Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, to serve as Judges of the same court from the moment they take charge of their respective positions,” stated a notification from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.

On February 21, the Supreme Court Collegium, under the leadership of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, endorsed the proposal to appoint Justices Brahme, Pooniwalla, and Jain as permanent judges in the Bombay High Court.

Additionally, it was recommended that Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande, currently an Additional Judge, have her term extended for another year.

In a different notification released on Tuesday, the Centre announced that the President was pleased to extend the term of Justice Deshpande as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court for one year starting from August 12, 2025.

According to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, the Chief Justice and Judges of the High Courts are appointed by the President.

When recommending the appointment of an Additional Judge as a permanent Judge, the Chief Justice is required to provide detailed statistics regarding the monthly disposal of cases, judgments delivered by the concerned judge, and the total number of working days, including attendance and absence records for the period relevant to the disposal statistics.
