Itanagar, December 13 (NationPress) The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, convened separate discussions on Saturday with the Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, to assess the development of strategic road projects.

A representative from Lok Bhavan indicated that the discussions revolved around the critical need to enhance strategic road connectivity to border regions, ensuring consistent maintenance, and establishing systems for quick restoration in case of road disruptions.

The Governor expressed appreciation for the BRO’s successful completion of 10 strategically important roads and 22 bridges as part of the Arunank, Udayak, Vartak, and Brahmank Projects. The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, virtually inaugurated these vital infrastructures on December 7, representing a significant advancement in the state’s infrastructure.

Lt. General Parnaik (Retd.) remarked that these national security projects will greatly improve military mobility, provide all-year access to remote and sensitive locations, and enhance the operational readiness of our armed forces for rapid responses.

He further noted that the enhanced connectivity will yield substantial socio-economic advantages for local communities, promoting growth and improving livelihoods throughout the state.

The Governor also praised the BRO for its humanitarian efforts, including medical outreach in remote villages and the establishment of Play & Learning Rooms for the children of casual workers involved in road construction.

Such initiatives demonstrate the BRO’s strong commitment not just to national security but also to the welfare of the communities it serves.

The BRO Director General updated the Governor on ongoing project progress and challenges, assuring him that the Organisation is dedicated to delivering top-quality roads and infrastructure for Arunachal Pradesh.

On his official X account, Chief Minister Khandu shared: “Had a fruitful morning meeting with DGBR Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan and senior BRO officers, along with Tawang DC Ms Namgyal Angmo, IAS. We conducted a thorough review of the road project advancements managed by BRO and discussed critical ground-level issues.”

Khandu stated that the BRO plays a crucial role in bolstering national security while significantly contributing to the socio-economic development of border region residents, despite the challenging terrains they operate in.

A senior official mentioned that the BRO has been pivotal in constructing strategic infrastructure along India’s borders.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the BRO has built and upgraded roads under harsh conditions, connecting some of the most remote areas, he added.

The official elaborated that these efforts have facilitated quick troop movement and provided essential connectivity to border villages, transforming them into emerging development hubs. Arunachal Pradesh shares international borders with China, Bhutan, and Myanmar, placing it at a significant geopolitical junction.

In this context, having a robust road infrastructure is crucial, not only for defense logistics but also for asserting India’s presence in remote regions.

With increasing activity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the development of border roads has become a national priority. The BRO, with support from the central and state governments, is spearheading this initiative.

Point of View

Arunachal Pradesh is taking significant steps towards strengthening its border connectivity, which is essential for both military readiness and local community welfare. The collaborative efforts between state and BRO exemplify a holistic approach to governance.
