Bengaluru, March 3 (NationPress) In response to remarks from former Union Minister and seasoned Congress figure Veerappa Moily, who stated that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar cannot be impeded in his pursuit of the Chief Minister role in Karnataka, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka asserted on Monday that this reinforces the reality of a power-sharing arrangement between Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
During a press interaction in Bengaluru, Ashoka remarked, "Moily's comments have illuminated the prospects for Deputy CM Shivakumar. He is well-acquainted with the nuances of the power-sharing arrangement. There exists a power-sharing agreement for 2.6 years between the CM and the Deputy CM, which I initially highlighted."
In another development, a Congress MLA has also suggested that Shivakumar is set to ascend to the CM position by December.
"I had predicted that CM Siddaramaiah would be replaced in November. When I made that prediction, Shivakumar playfully asked if I was an astrologer, joking that he would consult me for further insights. CM Siddaramaiah, however, has negated these assertions," Ashoka continued.
On this evolving situation, Ashoka noted, "As these events unfold, CM Siddaramaiah is reportedly suffering from knee pain. A religious seer has indicated that Siddaramaiah won't relinquish his post without a struggle. Shivakumar once humorously remarked in the Assembly that his astrologer had warned him he would need to exert force to seize power, implying it wouldn't come to him effortlessly. Now, we will observe how Shivakumar navigates the path to the CM's chair."
Additionally, he alleged, "CM Siddaramaiah is poised to incur the highest debts in the state’s history, which will compel Shivakumar to resign due to financial mismanagement once he assumes the CM role. This ongoing power tussle has severely disrupted law and order in the state, and the administration is in disarray with no major advancements."
Despite these claims, CM Siddaramaiah continues to assert his intention to serve a full term, dismissing the political instability concerns.
Former Union Minister Veerappa Moily, speaking at a party event in Udupi on Sunday, declared that no one can prevent Shivakumar from becoming CM. Moily made this statement while Shivakumar was present, reinforcing that the decision to transfer the CM position to Shivakumar has already been finalized.
"I was the one who granted Shivakumar the party nomination to contest the MLA election for the first time. He has developed into a competent political leader, and this is a source of great joy," Moily remarked.
Moily advised Shivakumar, saying, "You must remain unfazed by any statements against you; your focus should not be on such distractions."
