Bengaluru, Oct 29 (NationPress) In the midst of a leadership struggle within Karnataka's ruling Congress party, former Congress MP D.K. Suresh, the younger sibling of Deputy Chief Minister and state party President D.K. Shivakumar, stated on Wednesday that his brother will ascend to the role of Chief Minister if destiny permits.
"I genuinely hope to see my brother Shivakumar as the Chief Minister. If it is destined for him, he will take up the CM position. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone at all times," Suresh expressed to reporters.
In response to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks in a TV interview about his aspiration to lead the party in the upcoming Assembly elections, he noted: "Leaders aged 95 and 98 are still active in politics. Therefore, there is no issue with Siddaramaiah contesting the 2028 elections. The forthcoming election will be conducted under his leadership, as he remains our leader."
When questioned about rumors of a potential “November Revolution” within Congress, Suresh remarked: "I am unaware of any November Revolution. The Congress party has been entrusted by the people to govern for a full term of five years. Currently, the party enjoys the support of 140 MLAs in the state Assembly, including independents. The priority now is to deliver on the promises made to the citizens."
He emphasized that the party and government are working cohesively, with no governance confusion.
Regarding AHINDA leaders organizing conventions and Shivakumar’s packed schedule with party duties, Suresh said: "Shivakumar, as the state President of the party, has a responsibility to include everyone and treat them fairly. He must also ensure that the interests of the party remain intact, and he is acting accordingly."
"Shivakumar will always adhere to the decisions made by the party," he underlined.
Concerning any power-sharing arrangements and a potential cabinet reshuffle, Suresh indicated: "The AICC leaders, the Chief Minister, and the Deputy Chief Minister are the ones to address that. There is nothing to be concerned about. If it is in his fate, Shivakumar will become the CM; otherwise, that’s perfectly fine."
When asked about efforts to secure the Chief Minister position for his brother, he clarified: "No such efforts are being made. Shivakumar serves as both the party president and Deputy Chief Minister. He will always prioritize the party's interests."
On whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is essential for the state Congress, Suresh stated: "He possesses all the leadership qualities. He appears to be in good health and is traveling throughout the state, ensuring efficient governance. It wouldn’t be inappropriate to contest the next election under his guidance."
"My views on the leadership matter are not significant. The final decision will be made by the high command and party leadership," he reiterated.
