Ashwini Vaishnaw Critiques Zuckerberg's Remarks on Indian Elections

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Union IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conveyed his disappointment on Monday concerning a recent assertion by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

During an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast, Zuckerberg claimed that "incumbents essentially lost every single election in 2024," implicitly referencing India.

Zuckerberg's statements suggested a perceived global decline in trust towards governments following the Covid-19 pandemic.

He attributed this erosion of public confidence to various issues, including inflation, pandemic-related economic policies, and the overall management of the Covid-19 situation by governments across the globe.

According to him, this public dissatisfaction has led to the defeat of incumbents in elections worldwide.

In reaction to Zuckerberg's comments, Ashwini Vaishnaw utilized the social media platform X to clarify the situation, especially concerning India’s 2024 elections.

He vehemently rejected Zuckerberg's assertion, emphasizing that the BJP-led NDA coalition's success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was "decisive", showcasing effective governance and public trust.

Ashwini Vaishnaw stated in his post: "As the world's largest democracy, India conducted the 2024 elections with over 640 million voters. The people of India reaffirmed their trust in the NDA under PM @narendramodi Ji’s leadership."

He further remarked: "Mr. Zuckerberg's assertion that most incumbent governments, including India in the 2024 elections, faced defeats post-COVID is factually incorrect."

Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted significant accomplishments under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, such as free food distribution to 800 million people, the administration of 2.2 billion free vaccines, and India's support to other countries during the Covid-19 crisis.

"From free food for 800 million, 2.2 billion free vaccines, and aid to nations worldwide during COVID, to leading India as the fastest-growing major economy, PM Modi's decisive 3rd-term victory is a testament to good governance and public trust," the Union Minister articulated.

Ashwini Vaishnaw concluded his remarks with a call for maintaining facts and credibility, stating: "It's disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Let's uphold facts and credibility."
