Assam Chief Minister Expresses Sorrow Over the Passing of Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh

Guwahati, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, conveyed his condolences on Thursday regarding the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away in Delhi at the age of 92.

In a message on X, Sarma stated: "I have had the honor of knowing Dr. Manmohan Singh ji since 1991, when he was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam—a state he represented for 28 years. Dr. Sahab exemplified humility and never succumbed to the allure of power. Throughout my interactions with him, his simplicity and decency, combined with his intellectual brilliance, were always evident.

"During his time as Prime Minister, I had numerous opportunities to discuss issues concerning Assam with him, and he consistently listened patiently and showed a strong commitment to social causes. Coming from modest beginnings in a post-partition India, he held several esteemed positions in service to the nation.

Sarma further expressed: "A generation of Indians will forever recall his significant role in launching a free market economy and putting an end to decades of outdated socialist policies. With his passing, the nation has lost a remarkable patriot, an outstanding scholar, an unconventional politician, and a distinguished statesman. My heartfelt condolences to Gursharan Madam, his family, and his admirers. Om Shanti.
