Guwahati, June 18 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his strong disapproval on Wednesday regarding the comments made by the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, concerning alleged remarks about cow slaughter linked to Gandhi's close associates. Sarma labeled these remarks as “toxic” and profoundly “offensive” to Hindu beliefs.
In a press briefing, Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of possessing a “prejudiced attitude” and challenged the rationale behind the insinuations that Hindu organizations could be responsible for desecrating a temple with cow remains.
“If Hindus were to dispose of meat, it would be pork, not beef. Such statements reveal a deep-seated bias,” he stated.
The Chief Minister's comments were in response to a controversy involving a Congress member close to Rahul Gandhi, who suggested that cow parts found at a temple in Assam could have been planted by Hindu groups.
Strongly rebutting the allegation, Sarma questioned, “If a cow's head was discovered at a temple, where is the rest of the body? Are we to assume that Hindu communities would slaughter a cow, discard the head, and consume the remainder? What is Rahul Gandhi insinuating? This notion is not only ridiculous, but also inflammatory.”
Sarma emphasized that those arrested in the incident belonged to a particular community, while Rahul Gandhi's camp appears to be shifting blame onto Hindus.
“This is a malicious distortion of facts, clearly aimed at inciting communal discord,” he said.
In closing, Sarma remarked that such incendiary rhetoric is a significant factor in the alienation many Hindus feel towards the Congress party.
He accused the Opposition of persistently attacking Hindu values under the guise of political discourse.
