Guwahati, Sep 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially launched the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Campus of Rabindranath Tagore University in Hojai on Tuesday, marking a significant advancement in the state’s higher education landscape.

Covering an area of 82 bighas and constructed at a cost of Rs 55.5 crore, this new campus features an academic block, an administrative building, and the office of the Vice-Chancellor. Multiple departments, including Pharmacy and various science disciplines, have transitioned to this new facility from the original Hojai College, where the university originated in 2019.

During the inauguration, Sarma reminisced about his commitment made in 2016 to establish a university in Hojai, expressing his contentment with its evolution into a comprehensive institution that now accommodates 3,500 students and offers 35 academic programs within just six years. He declared an additional Rs 50 crore for continued improvements to the campus and instructed the local administration to build a 1.5 km road connecting the university to the National Highway.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced the transfer of the local ITI to the university, effectively establishing its third campus.

Emphasizing the significance of contemporary education, he encouraged students to adopt emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Semiconductors, and Augmented Reality. He stated, “Those who lack awareness of these advancements will truly remain illiterate in the future.”

Sarma also pointed out the increasing demand for courses in commerce, stock markets, and financial inclusion, asserting that Assam’s universities must foster entrepreneurship and innovation. He remarked, “With the right blend of modern education, entrepreneurship, and cultural values, Assam can emerge as a leading state in India.”

Referencing the recent Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, which attracted investments amounting to Rs 1.40 lakh crore, including projects such as a semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, a 3,200 MW power project in Dhubri, medical tourism initiatives in Guwahati, and bamboo-based ethanol production in Numaligarh, the Chief Minister stated that Assam’s youth must prepare for careers in these burgeoning industries. He highlighted that Japan is interested in hiring 50,000 skilled workers from the state.

The event was graced by the presence of Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, senior ministers, MPs, MLAs, and Vice-Chancellor Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, among others.
