Guwahati, Jan 16 (NationPress) On his day-long trip to Morigaon, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with the Assam Cabinet Ministers, assessed the advancement of Assam's first semiconductor integrated assembly and testing facility located at Jagiroad.
An official statement highlighted: “This initiative marks the beginning of a significant transformation in India's semiconductor industry, a vision initiated with the laying of its foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13 of the previous year. Sarma participated in the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for this project, which is being established with an investment of around 27,000 crore rupees, on August 3 last year.”
During his tour, the Chief Minister, joined by the Assam Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from various departments, received an update from Ashish Mishra, the Project Head of Tata’s Semiconductor Assembly and Testing facility, via a detailed PowerPoint presentation.
Sarma recognized that the state’s commitment to good governance is starting to yield results and remarked that the Jagiroad semiconductor project has unlocked extensive industrial possibilities for Assam.
Stressing the importance of effective governance for accelerated growth, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the groundwork for three projects, including Assam’s semiconductor initiative at Jagiroad.
He remarked that if Assam’s semiconductor plant commences production ahead of others, it would be a significant achievement.
He also conveyed hope that Assam, through this venture, will gain worldwide recognition, positioning the semiconductor project as a key player in shaping the future. The Chief Minister pointed out that Assam's favorable geographic location is beneficial, yet regional unrest and a limited local market often hinder large institutions from investing in the state.
He expressed confidence that with sustained focus on good governance, Assam will draw more industries. He highlighted the state’s proactive support for the Jagiroad project, encompassing power, water supply, security arrangements, etc., stating that these efforts have communicated a positive message to industrial entities.
To demonstrate the strength of collaborative action, the state organized visits to the project site for Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials. He emphasized that the key to building a prosperous Assam lies in ensuring good governance, noting the increasing trust among companies contemplating investment in the state.
Sarma mentioned that the forthcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 event in February will be enhanced by Tata Electronics' favorable feedback on the government's support for the Jagiroad project, which has already attracted the interest of numerous investors.
Reflecting on the state's development, he stated that Assam has embarked on a transformative phase, where collective efforts will elevate it to new heights. The Jagiroad project, he noted, will stand as a prominent example of the state's hopeful future.
