Guwahati, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, declared on Tuesday that the state is rapidly transforming into a new educational epicenter, boasting 25 medical colleges alongside an equal number of universities.

Highlighting the remarkable changes in the educational landscape of Assam, the Chief Minister noted that the state currently hosts over 25 medical colleges, with 15 already operational and 10 others at various stages of development.

He further mentioned that Assam is now home to 25-26 universities, some fully functional while others are under construction. The presence of numerous engineering colleges, including IIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar, is a testament to growth that was once unimaginable.

According to Sarma, Assam is currently a center of fresh and emerging opportunities, providing pathways for educated youth to pursue careers.

“With developmental projects such as fostering a startup ecosystem and industrialization, Assam is entering a new phase of growth and prosperity. From establishing a Skill University to promoting the Semiconductor industry, the state is poised to rank among the top five most developed states in the nation,” he stated.

Sarma made these remarks during the 4th convocation of Cotton University, encouraging graduates to spearhead Assam's journey towards competence and self-sufficiency. Addressing the 2804 graduates, he extended his heartfelt congratulations, attributing their achievements to their commitment and the sacrifices made by educators and families.

On this significant occasion, he praised all faculty members and the families of the students for their unwavering support.

Reflecting on his own time at Cotton College, now Cotton University, Sarma expressed that this day holds special significance for him. He credited the education he received there as a pivotal influence in his life and career.

“As a proud alumnus of Cotton College, now Cotton University, it is an immense honor for me to stand before you and speak on this momentous occasion,” he shared.

The Chief Minister lauded Cotton University, stating that the institution embodies a unique energy that encourages young minds to aspire for greater heights, work diligently, and achieve success.

He remarked that the transition of Cotton College into Cotton University has allowed that energy to flourish on a broader scale. The students not only uphold their illustrious heritage but also face the future with bravery, confidence, and a clear sense of purpose.

He noted that convocations serve as gateways to new possibilities, providing an opportunity for profound reflection on the future.

To the graduates, he stated, “You have earned your degrees from Cotton University, a prestigious institution of learning and a significant hub of knowledge in the North-East. At this juncture, you are on the cusp of a bright future and an extraordinary journey.”
