Guwahati, Dec 17 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed on Tuesday that India and Bhutan are intertwined through a shared civilizational heritage, and their relationship has progressed markedly in recent years.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sarma stated, "Bharat and Bhutan are connected by a rich civilizational legacy. I take pride in how our relationship has evolved and solidified over the years, allowing us to continue our journey as strong partners in growth. As part of our joint efforts to enhance this partnership, I am pleased to announce the launch of the #AdvantageAssam 2.0 Roadshow from Thimphu on December 16, 2024."
Earlier on Monday, CM Sarma participated in a meeting in Thimphu alongside Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay regarding the upcoming investor summit - Advantage Assam 2.0.
During his keynote address, CM Sarma elaborated on how Assam is upgrading its infrastructure and creating new opportunities for trade and investment collaborations. The summit aims to highlight Assam's strategies for growth across various sectors, positioning it as a key player in the Act East Policy.
In acknowledgment of Bhutan's 117th National Day on December 17, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for being invited to the celebrations.
He emphasized that Assam and Bhutan share a lasting bond, a relationship cultivated over centuries through cultural, historical, and economic interactions.
The ancient trade routes between the two regions were not only pathways for goods like tea, silk, and other products but were also crucial for fostering mutual understanding and interdependence.
"The visit of His Majesty to Assam last November has further solidified this bond, motivating both Assam and Bhutan to seek new ideas and initiatives to enhance cooperation in critical areas for mutual growth and prosperity," CM Sarma remarked, announcing that Assam will host an Investment and Infrastructure Summit on February 25 and 26 in Guwahati.
The Chief Minister stated, "Assam is thankful to Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for his gracious attendance at the previous Advantage Assam edition. I extend a heartfelt invitation to the Prime Minister of Bhutan to attend this Summit and the Mega Cultural Event, which would further reinforce our shared vision for regional prosperity."
Highlighting potential collaboration areas, CM Sarma noted that energy cooperation could be significant, given Bhutan's exemplary hydropower partnership with India. Assam stands to benefit greatly from this initiative, contributing to the common goal of promoting renewable energy and economic growth.
