Assam Chief Minister's Visit to the Indian Embassy in Bhutan

Guwahati, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, made a visit to the Indian Embassy in Bhutan on Wednesday as part of his four-day journey to the neighboring nation.
CM Sarma took to X to share, “I visited the Indian Embassy in Bhutan and praised the outstanding efforts by the team in enhancing the bonds between India and Bhutan. I also had a fruitful discussion with the esteemed @SadhguruJV during my time at the Embassy.”
On Tuesday, Sarma engaged in discussions with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, focusing on reinforcing the historical relationship between Assam and Bhutan while working towards collaborative initiatives.
The conversations also centered around promoting Bhutan's development, improving the well-being of its citizens, and encouraging broader regional economic progress.
In a post on X, he reflected, “Cherished moments with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Her Majesty Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema | Tashichho Dzong.”
During a luncheon with Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Togbay of Bhutan, he further addressed issues of mutual interest and explored ways to strengthen trade relations between the two regions.
He pointed out that Assam and Bhutan have historically shared connectivity through seven established trade routes, emphasizing the lasting nature of their economic partnership.
The Chief Minister assured Bhutanese leadership of the Assam government’s unwavering support and collaboration to enhance trade infrastructure along the Assam-Bhutan border.
He stressed the importance of developing additional trade routes to accommodate the needs of Bhutanese traders.
Sarma also underscored Assam's initiatives under Asom Mala to improve road connectivity, particularly between Kokrajhar and Gelephu.
Additionally, Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, participated in the 117th National Day celebrations of Bhutan.
The celebrations took place at the beautiful Changlimithang Grounds in Thimphu on Tuesday and left a profound impact on Sarma, who described the experience as incredibly moving.
The CM expressed his gratitude and happiness for being part of Bhutan's National Day festivities. The Royal Government of Bhutan extended a warm and gracious welcome to both him and his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
