Assam Chief Minister Initiates Three-Day Visit to Bhutan

Guwahati, Dec 16 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commenced a three-day visit to Bhutan on Monday. As part of this journey, the Chief Minister is expected to participate in the National Day festivities of Bhutan.
Sarma arrived in Thimphu on Monday, accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, where they received a warm welcome from Bhutan's foreign minister at the airport.
Upon reaching Bhutan, Sarma shared on X: "Just landed in Thimphu. Grateful to H.E Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel, Foreign Minister of Bhutan, for the warm reception extended to Riniki and me at the airport. I am eager to enhance Bharat's relationship with this wonderful nation during my three-day stay."
In another post, he expressed: "I am en route to Thimphu to join Bhutan’s National Day Celebrations at the kind invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. I sincerely hope this visit will further strengthen the enduring friendship between the remarkable people of Bhutan and the state of Assam."
Earlier this year, during his inaugural visit to Assam, King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk experienced an evening jeep safari through the central range of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
The King and his team entered the park via the Mihimukh Gate in the central Kohora range.
While donning the traditional Bhutanese 'gho' and a khaki hat, the King was spotted capturing moments with his mobile phone and using binoculars to observe the wildlife.
He also witnessed elephants being bathed in the Kohora River as the mahouts sang traditional melodies.
From this vantage point, he enjoyed the sunset, with the Karbi-Anglong hills in the background and forest department elephants nearby.
Among the gifts presented to the monarch and his officials from Bhutan were a coffee table book about Kaziranga, a piece of art depicting the park, a handcrafted wooden one-horned rhino, organic Assam tea, and a Muga-silk gamocha, a traditional towel symbolizing Assam, according to official sources.
At the Kaziranga convention hall, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hosted a dinner and cultural event that the King also attended.
