Bhutan's Monarch to Commence Official Visit to India Tomorrow

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) The King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Her Majesty Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, the Queen of Bhutan, will be on an official journey to India from December 5 to 6, accompanied by senior representatives from the Royal Government of Bhutan, according to an official announcement.

During this visit, the King plans to engage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior government officials.

This visit provides an opportunity to assess the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and to further strengthen the outstanding partnership between the two nations across various sectors.

India and Bhutan maintain a distinctive and exemplary relationship built on mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding. Diplomatic ties were formally established in 1968, anchored by the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 1949, which was renewed in February 2007.

The longstanding ties, characterized by trust and understanding, have been enhanced by regular high-level visits.

During PM Modi's visit to Bhutan in August 2019, four significant projects were launched, including the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydro project, the Ground Earth Station of ISRO for the South Asian Satellite, the RuPay Card, and the extension of interconnection between India’s National Knowledge Network and Bhutan’s Research and Education Network.

The King of Bhutan previously visited India from October 31 to November 3, 2017, and again in August 2018 to honor the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He also made an official visit to India from September 14-16, 2022.

In 2023, His Majesty made two official trips to India in April and November, meeting with the Indian President, Prime Minister, External Affairs Minister, and other senior officials.

Additionally, he visited the states of Assam and Maharashtra in November.
