King of Bhutan Set to Arrive in India Tomorrow

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, accompanied by Her Majesty Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and senior officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan, is scheduled for an official visit to India from December 05 to 06, according to an official announcement.

During this visit, the King is expected to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior government officials.

As highlighted, India and Bhutan have a distinctive relationship based on friendship and cooperation, characterized by mutual understanding and trust.

This visit will offer both nations the chance to assess the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and to further enhance their exemplary partnership across various sectors.

Since 1968, India and Bhutan have maintained formal diplomatic ties, rooted in the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 1949, which was renewed in February 2007.

The longstanding bilateral relationship, characterized by mutual trust and understanding, has been strengthened through regular high-level exchanges.

During PM Modi's visit to Bhutan in August 2019, four significant bilateral projects were launched, including the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydro project, the Ground Earth Station of ISRO for the South Asian Satellite, the RuPay Card, and the extension of interconnection between the National Knowledge Network of India and Bhutan’s Research and Education Network.

Previously, the King of Bhutan visited India from October 31 to November 3, 2017, and returned in August 2018 to pay respects to the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Most recently, the King of Bhutan visited India from September 14-16, 2022, and in 2023, he made two official visits in April and November, during which he met the Indian President, Prime Minister, External Affairs Minister, and other senior officials.

Additionally, he conducted an official visit to the states of Assam and Maharashtra in November.
