Guwahati, May 2 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, leading the BJP's campaign for the Panchayat elections in the state, made pointed remarks at Congress leaders during a public rally in Dhubri on Friday. Sarma stated, “The residents of Dhubri generously supported the Congress MP with a significant vote margin in last year's Lok Sabha elections. However, after the elections, the MP was nowhere to be found for any public engagements. Similarly, in Golakganj, the elected Congress MLA has also failed to fulfill election promises.”

The Chief Minister asserted that since the BJP assumed power in Assam nine years ago, the Dhubri district has witnessed considerable progress.

“The BJP government has launched extensive initiatives aimed at developing the Dhubri district. For Assam’s advancement, it is crucial that Dhubri transforms into a developed region,” Sarma emphasized.

The initial phase of voting for the Panchayat elections is currently taking place in Assam, with long lines of voters observed at polling stations.

Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the BJP-led NDA has successfully secured 325 seats unopposed in the Panchayat elections.

Sarma noted, “According to preliminary reports, the NDA has already acquired 37 Zila Parishad seats (35 BJP and two AGP) and 288 Anchalik Panchayat seats (259 BJP and 29 AGP), all unopposed.”

As per the Chief Minister, this represents an extraordinary mandate in Assam's political history, showcasing the immense faith and affection the populace has for the NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He further stated, “We believe that when the final election results are announced, this number will become even more remarkable. The NDA is poised to dominate the Panchayat elections in Assam. My sincere thanks to the people of Assam and deep appreciation to our devoted karyakartas for their relentless efforts and steadfast commitment.”

Point of View

The ongoing political landscape in Assam reflects a significant shift towards the BJP, particularly in the Panchayat elections. With the Chief Minister's bold claims and a substantial unopposed seat count, it appears that the electorate is favoring the NDA, raising questions about Congress's future in the region.
