Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, 25 September 2026, announced the launch of the North East Seva Fast Innovation Challenge in Guwahati, calling on young innovators and startups from across India to devise science and technology-driven solutions to pressing problems in the state. The initiative forms a core part of Assam's Seva and Sankalp Abhiyan, organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years of public service.

What the Challenge Involves

The Assam government has identified approximately 50 specific problems spanning agriculture, irrigation, transportation, and urban management, among other sectors. Young innovators from Assam, the broader Northeast, and the rest of India have been invited to develop practical, working solutions to these challenges.

'The idea is that the young generation should develop scientific models showing how these problems can be solved,' Chief Minister Sarma said, speaking to reporters in Guwahati.

What Winners Stand to Gain

The state government intends to select the best two or three models and provide support that goes beyond financial assistance. Relevant government departments will also supply data and other resources to help innovators translate ideas into ground-level solutions.

'Once an idea is converted into a solution, the state government will integrate such solutions with its policies wherever appropriate and help the concerned startup grow into a company,' Sarma said.

The challenge is being organised in Assam for the first time and is open not just to residents of the state but to participants from across the Northeast and India at large. Sarma framed the ambition succinctly: 'Let the problems be from Assam and the solutions come from across India.'

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the initiative would generate sustained enthusiasm among young innovators and could be held annually if the first edition proves successful. He also thanked the state's Startup Department and Education Department for driving the programme forward.
